Meet Elizabeth
Elizabeth Adams grew up in New York City and has spent her life fighting for her community. She has been a longtime advocate for social justice and reproductive freedom, is a former educator, and works every day to serve Brooklyn residents in the New York City Council.
Elizabeth is running to represent the Council’s 33rd District, because our city deserves leaders committed to bold change.
"I moved to North Brooklyn after college almost 10 years ago and Brooklyn is where I’ve built my community. This district is what is home to me — the diversity of our neighborhoods, the artistic culture and nightlife, and the waterfront open green space. Our communities are facing unprecedented challenges and more than ever we need leaders who will fight for all of us.
Through my years working for the Council I have taken on tough fights and worked side by side with community leaders to get things done. I've drafted legislation to improve access to housing for homeless New Yorkers and expand environmental sustainability for our future; I’ve helped small businesses stay in the district and protect their rent, and I’ve fought shoulder to shoulder with neighbors to stop the expansion of fossil fuels and fracked gas in North Brooklyn.
Prior to working in the Council, I served as the Director of Government Relations at Planned Parenthood of NYC. I’m a longtime patient and know firsthand the importance of access to affordable reproductive health care. At Planned Parenthood, I expanded funding for LGBTQ youth programs and HIV prevention, helped pass legislation to improve contraceptive access and health education, and was appointed by the Mayor to a citywide task force on sexual health education, helping secure millions in funding for curriculum improvements, teacher training and school support.
Local government is more vital than ever to ensure our communities are cared for and have the resources they deserve. I have spent my career fighting for New Yorkers and I know that this moment requires we push forward fresh bold plans that enable us to meet the needs of a changing future. I am proud to build upon my record of service and advocacy to fight for the 33rd District.
We need strong leadership, trusted experience and clear conviction of values. I care deeply about the 33rd district and am honored to run to be the first woman elected to this City Council seat.

“This city raised me and taught me that affordable housing and quality public education are our right. Yet, Brooklyn families are fighting every day to stay in their communities and care for their loved ones. It’s time for our government to do more.”
